About

What isSISU Edge?

The Story.

SISU is the Finnish concept meaning to have grit. Edge meaning to build an edge over your competition. Our training isn't for everyone. It's really hard, and our job is to push players past their limitations.

Not Just a Gym.A Proving Ground.

SISU is a Finnish word for grit — the kind of endurance that shows up in the third period when everyone else is fading. The edge is what you build in the months nobody's watching: stronger, faster, harder to play against. That work happens here, off the ice, rep after rep.

Why SISU

No Shortcuts

Our training is hard on purpose. Easy programs build easy results.

Coach-Led Every Rep

Every athlete trains with a coach who watches, corrects, and pushes.

Built for Hockey

Programs designed for the demands of the game — explosive power, lateral movement, conditioning.

Proven by Progress

We test in week one and retest down the road. Your progress isn't a feeling — it's a number you can see move.

Meet the Team.Built by Athletes, for Athletes.

Every coach on the floor has competed and coached at a high level. They watch your reps, fix what needs fixing, and push you when you'd rather coast. No autopilot, no off-the-shelf programs.

Kai Heinonen, SISU Edge performance coach

Kai Heinonen

Strength & Conditioning Coach

Kai leads strength and conditioning at SISU Edge. With over two decades developing athletes and a background in martial arts, he built his reputation as the Elite 15 strength coach at the Burnaby Winter Club Hockey Academy, where he trained future pros including Mathew Barzal and Ty Ronning. At SISU he develops power, speed, and durability off the ice, and his sessions are hard on purpose.

Brad Hunt, SISU Edge performance coach

Brad Hunt

Skills & Development Coach

A Maple Ridge native, Brad brings a full pro career to the floor. He played the blue line for seven NHL teams, including his hometown Canucks, after a standout college run at Bemidji State. He also won World Championship gold with Canada in 2023. Brad knows exactly what it takes to reach the top, and what young players need to build now to get there.

Paris O'Brien, SISU Edge performance coach

Paris O'Brien

Goaltending & Mental Performance Coach

Paris coaches goaltending and mental performance, the Train the Mind side of SISU Edge. A Coquitlam native, he tended goal for China at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics after coming up through the Kunlun Red Star system, and later played USports at Wilfrid Laurier. He works with goalies and skaters on the mental side of the game: pressure, routines, focus, and delivering when it counts.

Our Philosophy

If you can last,
you can be SISU.
